In 1869, Armand David, a French man, discovered the world' s first giant panda in Ya’ an. Now giant pandas have been given to many countries as a “national gif" , 18 of which are from Ya’ an. In 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping formally announced the establishment of the Giant Panda National Park at the Leaders’Summit of the Convention on Biological Diversity.With 41.3% of the administrative area allocated to the park, Ya’an became the city (state) with the largest area and the largest number of reintroductions, and was awarded the title of “Home of Giant Panda Reintroduction” by the State Forestry Administration of the People’s Republic of China.

The city’ s bamboo forest area remains stable at 2.15 million mu, with bamboo cultivation bases exceeding 1.5657 million mu. It has developed 40,000 mu of shoot-use forests, including 459,600 mu of clumping bamboo forests dominated by species such as Bambusa emeiensis and Bambusa rigida.The city has established modern bamboo industry bases covering 369,000 mu, characterized by concentrated clusters,integrated facilities, and intensive management. The total output value of the bamboo industry reached CNY 6.04 billion, marking an 11.7% year-on-year increase.
